American Home Shield is a horrible company and I would never recommend them to anyone. The most horrible customer service I have ever experienced. The employees were the most unprofessional I have ever come across.
However, they cover different parts of your home and insure your property for different types of damage. While American Home Shield's customer service department is open 24 hours, many of the contractors they work with are not. Users also note frequent difficulty in contacting AHS throughout the service request process, citing long telephone hold times and technical difficulties on the company's website. For home buyers and existing homeowners, coverage begins 30 days after you purchase your new home warranty plan. There is no waiting period for seller coverage. I’ve called 3 times over a 2 week span to find out when my $75 I was charged for a service call I cancelled will be refunded.

Wed I put in a request for garbage disposal, bathtub stopper and doorbell repair automated lady said someone would call me from assurance plumbing within 24 hrs now over 48 hrs and still nothing. I think I should be re-emversed for my $583 I had to pay due to no fault of mine but yours. What are customers supposed to do in an emergency situation? You either need to hire more phone operators or find a solution for emergencies. I would never recommend this home warranty to anyone. All I have gotten from customer service is a run around that they needed to find out who and why this was cancelled. I have been forced by this negligence to hire a local company myself to investigate and fix the problem. I expect as a minimum reimbursement for the emergency service call and something for the replacement pump. I have spent almost 7 hours over several days to get information on how to get reimbursed for a purchase I was told to make to replace an unfixable diswasher. It was very difficult to understand the representative for AHS as she is in a foreign country.
In some cases, American Home Shield will allow you to take cash instead of repairing or replacing your damaged item. Unfortunately, this almost never works out in your favor. AHS pays you the amount it would have spent on a replacement, which can end up being much less than the retail cost. American Home Shield's protection plans are a little too good to be true, as poor consumer ratings indicate that the company struggles to provide the service as advertised. I signed up for this "service" back in March of 2022.
